Walked to Central Park, about 1.5 miles, which doesn't sound far but in NY it felt like 5. Had a relaxing ride in a horse-drawn carriage, pulled easily (we're not v. heavy) by 'Molly' and driven by an all knowing Irish 'yer man' gentleman from Dublin (25 yrs ago) who kept asking us if he still had an accent! I thought he was joking and felt like enquiring of him which religion the Pope might be currently following. He pointed a few things out whilst he read the paper and smoked a fag and Molly did the work. "Ye know it's a stressful job, so it is" he said with a knowing wink whilst relieving us a good few greenbacks.
We then walked on through Central Park about another, but more pleasant, 1.5 miles to the Guggenheim museum of modern art. The building was unsurprisingly magnificent having been built by one of our clan (Frank Lloyd Wright). Some exhibits were interesting, especially with the audio commentary, but we were straying into the strange world of the self-obsessed quite a bit and carrot cake and a bag of crisps was very welcome at the cafe.
I feel as if I'm there with you. Thank you Dave. Lolxxxxxxxx
ReplyDeleteLooks fantastic. Wish we were there with you. Hope you are all well. Swampy and chums have moved into Gogarburn as expected. So far the worst we've had to endure was a glued hand to a table (http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2010/aug/20/climate-change-activist-glue-desk-rbs) and an out of tune version of 'blowing in the wind' played on a lute. Looking forward to reading your next post. Lots of love to you all, Mike & Claire xx
ReplyDeleteSounds like a lot of fun. I hope you're going clothes shopping - can't miss a chance like this! We're all well. Eve is currently napping but she sends her love too.

Hi, sounds (and looks) like you're having an amazing time!! Photos fab dad, worth the 'lag' time for sure (hehe) - must be a photographer's dream!! Glad that you got safely to Boston and hope you enjoy the rest of your trip, it all sounds fantastic! Keep us updated. Well, think of us here in flooded Aberdeen (school closed for kids tomorrow cause part of the roof caved in due to torrential rain - staff not so lucky and have to go in and clean up the mess, boooo!) All going fine though and picked up mum from hospital on Saturday, seems a lot better :) Lots and lots of love to you all, can't wait to hear all about it xxxx
